Christmas is a wonderful time of the year. Some would say, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year.” I’m not sure about that, but I admit that except for Scrooge and the Grinch, the Christmas season can be filled with joy.

Admittedly it can also be a tough time when loved ones are no longer with us to share the holidays. If Christmas really is a wonderful time of the year it is because we are reminded that there is hope, a real hope.

Isaiah the prophet spoke about this hope, a coming Messiah, who we now know to be Jesus, the Christ. 700 years before the first Christmas Isaiah declared…

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

This was good news to an ancient people who needed hope. It is still good news to you and me. For with hope comes joy, and then the awareness of God’s love.

Take time to reflect on the names (titles) that describe our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. This Sunday we will look into the words, “Wonderful Counselor”. If you are like me, we are all too aware of our need for good counsel.
